The Restoration, as a term by itself, normally refers to the events of 1660 whereby Charles II was recognised as king of England and Scotland, and returned from exile, thus restoring the monarchy. Used in apposition to another noun, it typically refers to the rest of his reign. Notably the phrase "Restoration Drama" refers to the plays written or adapted following the reopening of the theatres in 1660.
