Sisyphos [r]: From Greek mythology, he is one of the "cardinal sinners" in Tartaros. He had tried to avoid death by imprisoning Death in chains, but his eternal punishment is to push a stone uphill, each day, continuously, and when it reaches the top of the mountain, it rolls back again, according to Elizabeth Vandiver, Classics scholar and authority on Greek mythology and Greek tragedy including the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Homer, and Virgil. This definition is based on her course Classical Mythology from The Teaching Company.
